In 2017-2018, we will continue with our Math series, Eureka Math.

This program was chosen to ensure all new Common Core State Standards are being met efficiently. Students will be sent home with the day's lesson we completed in class along with their homework sheet.

Kindergarten, first, and second grade teachers often give children a nightly assignment to read aloud for 10 to 20 minutes.

This can be supervised by parents, grandparents, or family members. Teachers know what parents are doing during the nightly reading time, if the child starts making up the story as he or she reads aloud to the teacher.

2nd graders seem to have a million interests (superheroes! We’ll help your 2nd grader improve his or her reading skills, building your child’s confidence and curiosity along the way!

), and reading is a great way for them to investigate the world around them.

Parents sometimes tell me they are proud of the fact they covered the pictures in emergent readers to force the child to read the “big” words.

At this point in early reading, it is not possible to read the big words.

Your supervision will improve the quality of your child’s work.

Please provide a time and place for your child to do his/her homework and try to keep this schedule as consistent as possible.
